I am honored to introduce myself to the Catholic Communities of St. James and St. Brigid.

I am Father Gary Padgett, born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I will turn 59 this December. I was baptized at St. Ann’s Church (no longer open), received First Communion and then called First Penance and Confirmation at St. Rita in Okolona. I finished the last four and a half years of grade school at St. Bernard in Highview where my mother and most of my family still belong. I was in the second graduating class of Marion C. Moore High School in 1973. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, Speech and English at Morehead State University in 1977. I attended graduate school in Rhetoric and Speech at the University of Alabama between 1977 and 1979 (great football years!) but did not finish my degree. I graduated from the Brandeis School of Law (the University of Louisville) in 1983.

After law school, I worked for the United States Department of Justice at the United States Attorney’s office in Louisville for five years as the office administrator. In 1990, I transferred to Washington, DC to work for the headquarters office, the Executive Office for United States Attorneys and managed an internal office evaluation program.

In my five years in Washington, DC I became very active in my parish communities and in 1994 began the application process for seminary. I was ordained a transitional deacon in June, 1998 and was ordained a priest on June 5, 1999. I have happily served as a priest for the last fifteen years. I was first assigned as an Associate at the Church of the Holy Spirit and a little over two years later began an almost thirteen year term as Pastor of Church of the Ascension.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know you.
