It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the vast problem of climate change, but the choices we make every day can make a real difference. When it comes to reducing carbon emissions you can achieve beneficial results through your own efforts. We know that you can prevent adding 4 tons of carbon emissions to the atmosphere annually by changing what you drive from a vehicle that gets 20 mpg to one that gets 40 mpg. Another sector that accounts for one third of emissions and where there is great potential for reducing these emissions is household energy which includes heating, cooling, lighting and electricity for appliances and electronics. Installing and using a programmable thermostat can reduce home-heating costs –and heating-related emissions—by about 15%. Dollar for dollar, this may be one of the most effective actions you can take.
