What Can I do?
As mentioned in last week’s bulletin, the average American emits 20 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere annually. Simple steps can be taken to decrease those emissions by 20% (4 tons); a meaningful and achievable goal.
A handful of consumer choices accounts for the bulk of an average person’s environmental impact. Looking at a pie chart on energy usage, the biggest share of Americans’ emissions comes from transportation (28%). Switching from an average vehicle getting 20 mpg to one getting 40mpg would , in one fell swoop, reduce emissions by nearly the 4 tons annually needed to meet your goal.
